Gastronomic Time Travel

Prairie du Chien, my home town, is Wisconsin’s second oldest city and the home of Wisconsin’s first millionaire. Hercules Dousman made his fortune in the fur trade in the early 19th century. I grew up looking at a picture of the family mansion, the Villa Louis, on the Ahrens Dairy milk cartons at breakfast every morning. The Villa is a historic site that attracts visitors all year long.

The Last Road Trip – of the Year

I like road trips and I like to visit my granddaughters. So deciding how to travel to a staff conference in Orlando was easy, I could drive and visit granddaughter Eden on the way.

Got an early start and made it through Chicago before rush hour. By the time the sun was coming up, I was driving through the windmill fields of northwestern Indiana. (more…)
