Nearing the northern edge of Dane County, the Ice Age Trail passes the Lodi Marsh.

It’s a busy day at the Robertson Trailhead.

There’s a story behind the name.

The signs also specify what you can and cannot do here.

I’m here for the hiking and the scenery.

The Marsh is off to the right.

The hike is on!

But wait, there’s a well worn path that veers off down the hill

At the bottom of the hill, Spring Creek.

I’m ready to tackle the hill; the hawk at the top of the tallest tree flies off before I can get a good look at him.

By the time I get close to the tree, a bluebird has taken the hawk’s place.

Looking back over my shoulder at the marsh in the distance.

Someone has left a message of encouragement. And nearby a bee is busy, diving in and out of the prairie flowers.

A cedar waxwing surveys the forest.

A sneaky snake beside the trail. I”m glad my peripheral snake spotting vision is still up to par.

And just like that, the end of the trail.
