I’ve flown into and out of Madison, but I’ve never flown over Madison until a couple of weeks ago. A much-anticipated trip to Israel began with a zig-zag start: bus to O’Hare, short hop to Minneapolis, and then an overnight flight to our connection in Paris.

My friends Jim and Cathy Stevens were intrigued by a public television program about Prairie du Chien, so I offered to give them a guided tour. They brought their grandson Caden along and we spent the day enjoying some of Wisconsin’s most beautiful scenery.

I asked Sam what he wanted to do this summer and he said, “Go Camping.” So we reserved a campsite at Pike’s Peak State Park in Iowa and soon we were on our way. Yeah, this is the view from Pikes Peak, overlooking the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers.
Last weekend we were camping (Sam & I), and the weekend before was a road trip to a family wedding in Ohio, so this weekend it’s good to take it easy and reflect back on some great memories and great photos.
We left Madison early enough to hit Chicago just as the sun was coming up, and before rush hour got bad. That was good.
It’s the longest day of the year, why not fill it with music? What a great idea!
Celebrating the summer solstice with a city full of music apparently started in Paris and now 700+ cities do it, including Madison WI, according to the Make Music Madison website. So when Cameron, one of the new interns at work, took me up on an offer to show him the city of Madison by bicycle, we decided that there was no better day to do it than the first day of summer. And why not check out as many concerts as possible on our quick ride around Madison.
Well actually there might be a better day, because the weather wasn’t perfect. But before the rain started we were able to enjoy snatches of great music as we biked around Madison. This is what we had in mind. Bike + Music = fun and adventure.
But before we could start our tour of Madison, we had a project that needed to be finished, load up the U-Haul and help Lisa move. Fortunately, Lisa was well prepared and the truck didn’t take long to fill.
