This trip began with a visit to Virginia and a short stop at Yale.

InterVarsity has a retreat and training center in New Hampshire called Toah Nipi. I volunteered to spend a few days assisting one of our student conferences for New England campuses.
From Virginia, my next destination was New England.

From Virginia it was back north, across the Mason Dixon line into Pennsylvania.
This year’s spring excursion found me headed east early in the morning, towards Virginia. (more…)
Prairie du Chien, my home town, is Wisconsin’s second oldest city and the home of Wisconsin’s first millionaire. Hercules Dousman made his fortune in the fur trade in the early 19th century. I grew up looking at a picture of the family mansion, the Villa Louis, on the Ahrens Dairy milk cartons at breakfast every morning. The Villa is a historic site that attracts visitors all year long.

The arrival of 2017 found me on the road headed south, towards InterVarsity’s staff conference in Orlando. (more…)
I like road trips and I like to visit my granddaughters. So deciding how to travel to a staff conference in Orlando was easy, I could drive and visit granddaughter Eden on the way.

Got an early start and made it through Chicago before rush hour. By the time the sun was coming up, I was driving through the windmill fields of northwestern Indiana. (more…)
Before our trip to Japan we were dismayed to read the weather forecasts and to see them filled with cloudy, rainy days. But it wasn’t so bad. Then, when our last day in Izukuni dawned (previous article on this page) bright and sunny, we rejoiced with an early morning excursion around the neighborhood.

Early morning jaunt.

Anna is ready for another adventure. She has her adventure boots on.
Finally the time for the biggest trip of the year arrived. We flew off to Japan on September 28th and followed the sun all the way across the Pacific, past the Aleutian islands, to Japan.

12 hours in the air, Minneapolis to Tokyo.
