Enjoying the last of fall

The colors won’t last long

With the Ice Age National Scenic Trail a couple of miles to the west and the University of Wisconsin Arboretum a couple of miles to the east, it’s not difficult finding a nice place to hike on a gorgeous fall morning. One morning in 2022 I took my camera along to the Arboretum.

I parked my bike at the Grady Tract, south of the beltline, and then took the tunnel under the beltline.

Yes, there's a tunnel that goes right under the beltline highway.
Yes there’s a tunnel, connecting the two sections of the arboretum, that goes right under the beltline highway. It’s long and dark, and probably not a good place to go if you suffer from claustrophobia.

The Arboretum is honeycombed with excellent walking trails.

I heard the rattling cry of the Sandhill Cranes before they flew overhead.

I often see turkeys in the arboretum.
I also see beautiful fungus on my hikes.

The goofy tree.
More colorful leaves.

The leaves are in peak color this weekend. Some leaves are showing off with more than one color.
