Tuesdays have been busy lately, but finally made it back to Governor Dodge State Park with my friend Tom, to tackle another trail on a Thursday.

Our next objective was the Pine Cliff Trail, on a frosty morning.

This little stream feeds the Cox Hollow Lake.

Once again we saw some impressive rock formations.

Then the trail winds up a hill.

A bridge over a little water fall.

We could see Cox Hollow Lake on either side, starting to close in on us.

Big rocks ultimately blocked our path to the point.

Too many years of rock climbing in my younger days, I wasn’t going to be stopped.

At the point, a nice view through the pines, over Cox Hollow Lake, an artificial lake. There are no natural lakes in the driftless region; lakes are created by damming up the streams that spring out of the hillsides.

This part of Cox Hollow Lake looks like the northwoods. Indeed, the pines in this part of Governor Dodge Park are unique in this part of the state. They’re more common up north.

A brisk, frosty morning and a good day for a walk.
