I spent a good part of my childhood roaming the Mississippi River bluffs around Prairie du Chien. Table Bluff, on the Ice Age Trail and just off highway 14 west of Cross Plains, is much smaller but still a good hike.

I was glad to have our son Drew along for this segment. We parked one car at the south end and then drove to the north end, where we set out.

Right after we began, a cautionary note about chickens.

Sure enough, chickens just off the trail around the next bend.

We also saw more butterflies on this segment.

Evidence of more wildlife: raccoons. Or maybe just a dog.

This looks like a deer track.

The trail goes down a hill and crosses a swamp.

We knew it was a swamp because of the Swamplovers. Then the trail rose again on the backside of Table Bluff.

Berries are not quite ripe yet.

Good signage on erosion control.

Erosion control is underway.

Soon we were approaching the brow of Table Bluff.

From up there it looked like someone might be towing cars from the parking area along the road. But we were OK, the towed car apparently had issues.

Thanks for coming along on this hike Drew, it’s great to have company!
