Two Gems of Wisconsin’s Baraboo Area

An invitation to join an 8-mile hike gave me a chance to visit two of the gems of the Driftless region in Sauk County.

Been trying to get to Pewit’s Nest, a small natural area west of Baraboo for about a decade, ever since I first learned about it.

the trails of Devil's Lake State Park

Our main goal was to to walk the trails of Devil’s Lake State Park, Wisconsin’s largest and most popular state park. Amazingly, the park ranger that sold me the annual sticker for my car at the front entrance was a friend from high school who I hadn’t seen in over 50 years.

So we set off on the West Bluff Trail, with my work colleagues Mimi, Vicki, and Ashley.

we took the Tumbled Rocks trail back along the western shore,

Instead of circling the lake, we took the Tumbled Rocks trail back along the western shore, and then hiked through the woods for awhile.

Over 8 miles walking today, and lots of natural beauty!
