One of my goals for this summer was to bike out into the countryside early on weekend mornings. So far I’ve made it once early in the summer and twice in August, and enjoyed some peaceful beauty each ride.

An old barn along the Badger trail, south of Madison.

Dew drops along the Badger Trail.

A lonesome steer along the Badger Trail.

A peaceful pond and a farm, framed by a fence along Commerce Park Drive

The triumvirate of summer beauty alongside Wisconsin highways, in ABC: Queen Anne’s lace (white), Birdsfoot Trefoil (yellow, in the background), and Chicory (blue).

In between the two morning rides this month, I visited the Polk Farm Conservancy’s annual explosion of sunflowers.

Crowds of people come to have their photos taken in the cheerful explosion of color.

Creating interesting scenarios.

The pollinators are there too.

Colorful flowers also brighten an early morning ride along the Capital City Trail.

Yellow is one of the best colors of summer.

The ducks and geese of Dunn’s Marsh

Breakfast at Jeske’s farm with my brother Jim and other InterVarsity colleague/friends.

One day too early for the new bike bridge across the Yahara River. They definitely do not want anyone to cross this bridge before it’s open.

The Lower Yahara River Trail is a beautiful new trail through Lake Farm Park.

Circled by the Farmers Market on the capitol square to pick up some fresh cheese curds, a great stop on a Saturday morning.

You never know what you’re going to see at the Farmers Market. It might be a 5-year old stilt walker.

It’s the last quiet Saturday morning on the University of Wisconsin campus. Thousands of new students will be moving in during the next few days.
